Trittico Eclettico was written at the request of Arno Piters, clarinettist with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. The title Trittico Eclettico (eclectic tryptic) refers to the three movements, each of which has a different style.
The first movement is based on a song I wrote for my granddaughter Reni's first birthday, July 23, 2021. It is a happy and carefree melody, inspired by her lovely and joyful spirit. The second movement refers the music of minimalists Philip Glass, Steve Reich and Louis Andriessen, while the final movement is written in Balkan- and Klezmer style, with virtuoso passages for the soloist and the accompaniment.
Trittico Eclettico is my ninth concerto, after respectively T-Bone Concerto (trombone), Casanova (cello), Canticles (bass trombone), UFO Concerto (euphonium), Fellini (alto sax), Two-Bone Concerto (2 trombones), Mondriaan (baritone sax) and Un Momento Dado (reed quintet).
