Greg Bissonette  Up a Level

Hi ... my name is Gregg Bissonette. I am a "recording session/touring drummer" based out of Los Angeles. Most of my work is recording for albums, TV shows, movie soundtracks, jingles, and my own solo CD's in LA. However, I often tour with bands in the summer. Last summer, I toured with James Taylor, and this past spring, I had a dream-come-true, month-long promotional tour with one of my heroes: Ringo Starr!! (Ringo mainly sang and fronted the band. We did a month of television appearances supporting his new CD "Ringo Rama", and we also did a live concert in New York with double drums!! The band also featured my favorite bassist and my best friend ... my brother Matt.)

I am very excited to be a proud user of the Superscope PSD300 CD Recording System. I have had the unit for a year now, and have really enjoyed using it to help me in several musical areas.

First of all...before I do a tour..I need to spend many long days transcribing the drum parts of the songs for the tour. Often times, before I do a recording session, I will have to transcribe intricate pre-production demos at home before I get to the session. Especially in the case of the "very intense, fast tempo, mega-speed-chop-prog rock-band" that I did an album for a few months ago, this CD recording system helped me immeasurably!!! I was able to slow the songs WAY down, and get a very clear reading on what the drum fills and beats were, without losing ANY of the pitch of the drums OR the music. This helps so much, because when transcribing intricate beats and drum fills on many drums, it is crucial to know exactly which drums are being played, and where!! I also sing backgrounds on many tours, and to have this unit keep the same pitch as it slows music down is a real blessing. The PSD300 also helped in going back and forth between two different CD's: live and studio (both loaded into the unit). Often times, I have to not only learn and clock the tempo for an artist's studio CD, but also the live CD versions. The PSD300 even allows me to almost completely take out the vocals with the flick of a switch, and really concentrate on the track!!!

The obvious feature that I absolutely love...is the CD copier. I am able to make CD's of material quickly and professionally for all of the members of the tour, or the recording session, or for my own personal use. It is simple, fast, and the quality is perfect!

Next, it is SO wonderful to take this very portable unit and a few microphones with me to record CD's ON THE SPOT for live gigs and rehearsals!!! This has been an incredible learning tool!! After a gig or rehearsal, I get into my car, and all the way home I can enjoy (or cringe...depending on how I played) a fantastic sounding CD of what we just played. This is especially helpful because I know I can completely trust the CD to record the songs at exactly the speed and tempo we played them at!! (none of this excuse...maybe the tape deck is running fast.!!!..)

My brother Matt and I also write songs for lots of different artists. This unit has been a fantastic tool to get the initial ideas, or group songwriting sessions recorded directly onto CD!!

Finally, I use the Superscope PSD300 CD Recording System constantly at home for practicing. Not only do I record my own acoustic drum practice sessions and listen back to them, but I also plug my electronic drums DIRECTLY into the unit, and record myself playing!! This means I can record myself soloing, OR playing along with my favorite CD's... quietly...24 HOURS A DAY if I want, without disturbing anyone!!!!
