Q. What type or brand of discs should I buy?A. The most important factor in choosing media for use with the PSD340 is to select discs rated for 1X speed. The PSD340 records in real-time (or 1X speed) directly to the disc. This means you will need to buy media that is rated for 1X speed. Because computer CD-R/RW drives have increased to upwards of 48X write speeds, more media is now rated for high speeds without clarifying whether or not they are suitable for 1X speed. Try to select media that includes a specification for 1X speed either on the package on the disc itself (For example, a CD-R disc might be labeled as suitable for 1X - 48X speed). However, our recent survey of brands sold at familiar outlets such as Best Buy, Circuit City, Office Max, and Comp USA, revealed that many best selling brands indicate "up to" a certain speed (for example "up to 52X speed") without clarifying whether or not they are rated for 1X speed. Superscope generally recommends brand names such as Mitsui, Taiyo Yuden, TDK, Sony, Imation, and Maxell, but cautions that quality can vary, even within a brand, or even from lot to lot. You may well find a given brand and produce different disc products at various levels of quality, reliability, and price. Q. I only want to record a particular section of a song. Is this possible?A. Yes! Producing a "needle-drop" recording with the PSD340 couldn't be easier. When you have a blank disc in the CD-R drive and the disc you want to record is in the CD player drive, select "REC with CD" mode. When the unit is paused, simply use the CD player controls to locate the track and time where you want recording to begin.Related FAQ: Let's say I want to record an introduction before I mix in music from a CD. Is this possible?A. Yes! Find the location on the CD that you want to record and then pause the CD player. You can proceed to record to the CD-R drive using microphones. Whenever you release the pause button on the CD player, CD audio will be mixed into the recording.Q. Can I add tracks to a CD I've already recorded on earlier?A. You can start and stop the PSD340, just like you would a tape recorder. Every time you stop or pause, you'll be creating a new track. (You can also create tracks with the TRACK INCREMENT button). you can take a CD out and put it on a shelf. Put it back in the unit a month later and add another tracks, AS LONG AS YOU DO NOT FINALIZE THE DISC. Once you finalize a CD-R disc, you cannot add another track. You can unfinalize or erase CD-RW rewritable discs. The reason you would finalize a disc is so that it plays back on other CD players. NOTE: many CD players today are not able to play finalized CD-RW discs but most will play finalized CD-R discs. Q. Will this unit read my CD+G discs and can I record my Karaoke performances?A. Yes and Yes! Make sure to place the CD+G disc in the CD player drive and enter the menu to turn the CD_G feature ON. This will allow CD graphics data to pass through the PSD340's digital output. Connect some mics and use "REC with CD" mode to record.Related FAQ: Can I add reverb to my vocals?A. Sure thing. Press the REV/DLY button to access the effects menu. After recording long pieces of music, I have to fast-forward a great deal to find the particular section that I want to listen back to. Manually incrementing tracks during the recording is not an option. Any suggestions?A. Use "Minute Track" record mode. This mode automatically increments a track every minute during recording. If the section you wish to review occurs 15 minutes into the performance, simply scroll up to track 15 and press play.Q. What's the best tuning method to use?A. For individual practice or small group settings, it may be easiest to use the chromatic tuner. This method will detect audio from the inputs or internal mic and display the nearest frequency in concert pitch. From the chromatic tuner display, you may turn the Select jog wheel to activate the 440Hz tuning tone. This tone will be output through the internal speaker and the Line Out. This method may work best in large group settings where the PSD 340 is connected to a sound system.Q. How does the Record Review feature work?A. Getting an instant review of a recording has never been easier. After you've recorded a track, press the Record Review button and the PSD340 will play back the last track recorded. If you press REC REVIEW during the recording, the PSD340 will automatically stop and then play back the last track recorded. Recording and reviewing your work can be done with just two buttons, RECORD and REC REVIEW!
