PSD 340 Buying Guide  Up a Level

Now that Superscope offers two CD Recording Systems, you'll might ask yourself, "which one is right for me?" Essentially, we've taken our PSD300 customer feedback to heart in developing the PSD340, our next generation Music Practice CD Recording System. It offers several refinements and convenience features not found on the PSD300. For budget-conscious buyers who can get by without the PSD340's improvements, we continue to offer the PSD300. For musicians and music educators who want the best, we proudly present the PSD340. This guide explains the similarities and differences between the two models.

CD RECORDING

Similarities: The PSD300 and PSD340 both make great live recordings directly to CD, with professional results. Both models:

  • Integrate a quality internal condenser microphone, mic preamplifiers, XLR and 1/4" mic/line stereo inputs, headphone jack, built-in speaker, and simple mixing controls.
  • Provide the same auxiliary analog and digital input/outputs for connecting to other audio equipment such as tape decks, outboard mixers, and stereo amplifiers.
  • Offer manual or Automatic Record Level Control for "worry free" recording.
  • Make it easy to mix and record CD accompaniment with live music.
  • Feature several recording and 2X speed CD duplication modes.

Differences: The PSD340 offers several important recording advancements over the PSD300 to give you more control and simplicity.

1-Button Recording
Just press the RECORD button on either the unit or the handheld remote control and the unit will go directly into Record-Pause when an unfinalized CD-R or CD-RW disc is present in the CD recording drive. Simply press the RECORD button again to start recording.

Record-Review
You can immediately play back the last recorded track by pressing the RECORD-REVIEW button. The mic/line input levels will automatically drop to zero, avoiding feedback.

Reverb & Delay Effects
Add ambience to your recordings with built-in microphone reverb and delay effects. You can adjust how much is added, from a little to a lot.

Independent Drives
The CD Recording drive and CD player drive operate independently on the PSD340. So you can continuously record while starting and stopping the CD player. Or you can feed the signal of the CD player drive to an outboard effects processor and back into the unit when recording with CD accompaniment.

MUSIC PRACTICE

Similarities: The PSD300 and PSD340 are both designed for music practice. You can play or sing along to CD accompaniment and record the mix to a CD-R or CD-RW disc. Or make custom practice CDs using Superscope's innovative music practice technology. Both models feature dedicated controls for:

  • Reducing lead vocals from many stereo recordings using Voice Reduction.
  • Selecting segments of songs to continuously repeat using A-B Loop.
  • Changing the Key of a song without affecting the original Tempo.
  • Changing the Tempo of a song without affecting the original Key.
  • Fine Tune using Key and Tempo change simultaneously.

Differences: The PSD340 offers several important enhancements over the PSD300 to make it a truly outstanding music practice tool.

Enhanced Key Control
New advanced algorithms offer the most advanced real-time Key Change manipulation on the market. If the PSD300's Key change feature sounds good, the PSD340's sounds outstanding. Plus, as well as changing Keys in 12.5 cent intervals, more conveniently by default, now you can can change Key in half step intervals.

Enhanced Tempo Control
We've also greatly improved the Tempo controls so that now you can slow CDs as much as 75% in 1% or 5% intervals. And the quality is better than ever, so that music still sounds good, with fewer audio artifacts at a greater range of change..

More Precise A-B Looping
We've increased the responsiveness of A-B loop selection to make it virtually seamless.

Play and Manipulate MP3 files
Not only can the PSD340 play MP3 files on a disc, but the music practice features for Key, Tempo, A-B Looping, and Voice Reduction work the same as with CD audio.

Built-In Metronome
Not only is it one less device to carry, but it's easy to amplify the metronome via the built-in speaker, external speakers, or headphones. You can adjust the accent beat and tempo of the metronome to create different timings.

Built-in Tuner
Again, you'll have one less device to carry. Generate an A44 tone or use the chromatic tuner to play a note and see if it is sharp or flat.
