Sure to become a standard! This beautiful transcription keeps the original key of the work and all string lines intact, with some re-voicing of the oboe parts to preserve Bach’s counterpoint. The meter has been changed from 3/8 to 3/4 time, allowing for greater accessibility with student musicians, and the tring bass line has been realized from the continuo part with minor alterations in the more virtuosic passages.

From Book I of Bach's The Well-Tempered Klavier, this lively reworking of the “Prelude and Fugue in B- lat minor, No. 22” provides students the wonderful experience of playing Baroque counterpoint in a minor key. Though rhythms are not complex, counting skills will be honed. The piece remains mainly in first position, yet also includes melodic augmented seconds. In the five-part fugue, the double basses have their own independent line, so let them shine.

One of Beethoven's most famous early works and sure to please any audience with its simple, warm, and rich melodies! The main theme is passed to every instrument with moving accompaniments and strong harmonies. Optional divided parts in the first violins provide challenging material while maintaining the integrity of the original in the lower part. The key has been changed from E-flat major to B-flat major and includes accidentals for deeper study.

On a tour of America in 1833 and 1834, the Franco/Flemish violin virtuoso Henri Vieuxtemps heard Yankee Doodle. On returning to Europe, he produced the violin and piano barnburner that was the inspiration for this string orchestra arrangement. Everyone in the orchestra gets a crack at the melody and some alternate notes are provided for those with acrophobia. Duration: 3:20

Celebrate Haydn’s 200th anniversary with this outstanding symphony! This exciting and energetic work is a rare example of Haydn’s use of the minor tonality in symphonic writing, which is aptly subtitled “Trauer,” translated “Mourning.” The string parts are very close to the original with changes made only to accommodate the important lines of the original oboe and horn parts. Students will thoroughly enjoy the contrapuntal style allowing simultaneous independent melodies. Some shifting is required through third position for violins and fourth position for cellos and basses.
