A great classic for intermediate level orchestra! Ludwig van Beethoven first performed the First Symphony at the Royal Imperial Theater in Vienna on April 2, 1800. The Second Movement is loosely reminiscent of the slow movement of Mozart's G Minor Symphony. But, to use the term “Mozartian” is to judge the work superficially. The movement begins to stir restlessly as it progresses. It is one of Beethoven's most singable and lyrical movements.

This fabulous Isaac arrangement from “Firebird Suite” is available again! “Berceuse and Finale” is Stravinsky at its best!

At the height of his career in the mid-1930s, Leroy Anderson began arranging for Arthur Fiedler's Boston Pops Orchestra. Later, Fiedler encouraged him to write his own tunes for the Pops. His compositions, more than 50 in number, virtually define the sound of the contemporary American pops orchestra. Blue Tango was a #1 hit in 1951, juxtaposing the charismatic melody over a traditional tango pulse. The work captured the spirit of an era. Duration: 3:00

In his James Bond Medley arrangement, Victor Lopez shows that the 007 agent is alive and well. The medley features five classic hits, the “James Bond Theme,” “For Your Eyes Only,” “Goldfinger,” “Live and Let Die,” and “No Body Does it Better.” Although this arrangement is written for intermediate full orchestra, it has been scored in such a way that it will also sound as effective with strings only. Careful considerations have been given to tonality and rhythmical issues as related to the strings. Bowings have also been included to facilitate playability. For more additional flexibility, solo parts have been cued throughout. With solid scoring, adequate ranges and classic selections, this James Bond Medley is a sure winner! Duration 8:35

“Millennium,” recorded this year by Alfred for the first time, was first released in 1998. This contemporary-sounding overture is extremely powerful and full of emotion from beginning to end. After a foreboding introduction, the heroic main theme is introduced by the brass section in unison, accompanied by the entire orchestra in a percussive, marcato style. A lyrical subordinate theme of extreme beauty follows, first stated by unison cellos, then picked up by the entire orchestra. The third and final section is a wild and energetic march, pitting brass against woodwinds and strings, leading into a final, majestic restatement of the main theme. Richard Meyer's colourful and imaginative scoring features every section of the symphony orchestra, resulting in a wonderfully mature-sounding, yet playable, ‘tour de force’ for the student orchestra.

The Mineola was written in 1890 by John W. Hawd and arranged for full orchestra for the Centennial Celebration of the Villlage of Mineola, New York (1906 - 2006). Located approximately 25 miles East of New York City on Long Island, Mineola is the governing “seat” of Nassau County. The name Mineola was derived from the Algonquin “Meniolagamika” which means “a friendly and pleasant village”. The Mineola Waltz was premiered on January 29, 2006 by the Nassau Pops Symphony Orchestra. Founded in 1984 by its director, Louis Panacciulli, the NPSO continues to maintain a year round performance schedule. This charming, lilting waltz will be a welcome addition to any concert setting and in particular that Spring Pops and “summer in the park in the under the gazebo“concert. The Mineola has a light, Viennese quality that will delight audiences of all ages.
