This is the first of Erik Satie's hauntingly beautiful Three Gymnopedies, originally a set of three piano pieces, here arranged for orchestra by David Stone. Satie often gave quizzical titles to his compositions. 'Gymnopedies' referred to ancient Greek singing and dancing rituals that took place in Sparta. Duration: 2:30.

Dvorák's most famous melody is now accessible to the young orchestra in this arrangement that is faithful to the original in color and texture. The haunting opening chords, solo clarinet work and mature sounding orchestration will make this a favorite of your students. A wonderful way to develop your orchestra's legato, singing style.

In the span of two months Mozart composed his last three and perhaps greatest symphonies. The first of these was Symphony No. 39, which has been described as one of the most cheerful and heartwarming symphonies ever written. The Menuetto from this work is a pristine example of classical three-part dance form. The main section is a rustic dance, while the contrasting Trio features a graceful pastoral melody introduced by the woodwinds. A wonderful way to introduce your young orchestra to symphonic form, this arrangement retains the delicate colors and textures of Mozart's original masterpiece. All string parts are in first position and clearly bowed with the young player in mind. The wind parts feature soli work for flute and clarinet. Parts for alto saxophone, bass clarinet, percussion, and piano are included.

First performed in Rome in 1816, this overture is among Rossini's most-loved orchestral works. Your students will undoubtedly recognize the infectious main theme from its frequent use in commercials and even Bugs Bunny cartoons! This arrangement highlights the individual colors of the woodwind, brass and string sections, yet remains so close to Rossini's original, your young orchestra will sound as if they're playing the real thing

Expose your students to a wide variety of styles and moods, all within one powerful piece! After a stark, chromatic opening, a festive section based on a variety of fanfare-like motifs is heard. The energy eventually subsides, making way for what has become one of the most famous chorales in the orchestral repertoire. After its first statement by woodwinds, the entire orchestra soon picks up this pleading, patriotic melody, and a glorious coda brings the piece to an exciting end
