The steadily building full band backing is well within the ability of the developing school band. Alternative B flat treble clef solo part included, suitable for trumpet or tenor sax. Key G.

A popular standard well within the range of most school bands. Just the number to re-create the relaxed style of the Basie band. Top note A for lead trumpet. Key F. Grade: Medium-Easy

The laid back Quincy Jones arrangement from the album ‘This time by Basie’, very much in the style of Neil Hefti’s ‘L’il Darlin’. Includes written out very playable lyrical trumpet solo. Key C Grade: Medium-Easy

This medium beat instrumental arrangement is based on the vocal version by the 60's soul group The Tymes. No jazz solos, but a very effective number for student bands. Top note G for lead trumpet. Key G.

This standard is as popular as ever with student bands. This arrangement includes the classic Ellington four bar piano introduction, with saxes then taking the lead. Written out solos for piano and trombone (cued on first tenor) and a dynamic full band ending. Top note low E for lead trumpte. Key B flat.

The funky disco groove 1970's film theme (featured on the album 'Disco Classics') for full big band. 1st Alto on flute; 1st trumpet up to F on stave, 1st trombone to G. A really effective but not difficult chart. Intermediate. Key: G

Based on the real flag waving Quincy Jones/Count Basie version from This Time by Basie transcribed by Jerry Sheppard. Basie took this at a cracking 250 beats per minute. However it works equally well at a steadier 184. Written solos for piano, tenor and baritone (cued on first alto). High/low trumpet parts mean that it can be played with a lead trumpet no higher than A. Key F. Taken down a Minor 3rd and simplified to suit Amateur/School bands.

The Quincy Jones/Count Basie version from the album ‘This Time by Basie’. Great section writing, plus written out tenor and piano solos. A superb swing number. Key Cm. Grade: Moderately Difficult

Plus optional flute. One of the all time great standards. After a solo piano introduction the lyrical melody played by the 1st tenor sax is combined with an underlying 6/4 jazz swing backing from the rhythm section, with the full band joining on the second chorus. Open 12-bar sequence has written solos for flute and trombone before the brass and saxes return, building to a driving ff ending. Top note high C for lead trumpet. Key Bb Grade: Intermediate

Recreate the fabulous sound of the Clarke-Boland band of the 1970’s with this laid back swing arrangement, with muted trumpet solo with sax and trombone backing, sax feature section and full band last chorus with lush trombone chords. Top written note A for lead trumpet. Key C.Grade: Intermediate
