The Afro-Cuban Big Band Play-Along book and CD gives the drummer/percussionist an opportunity to play contemporary Afro-Cuban music in a big band setting. The book and CD includes six charts from the Grammy®-award-winning Caribbean Jazz Project album, Afro-Bop Alliance (featuring Dave Samuels). The tracks, minus the drum/percussion parts, will give the player an opportunity to solo and experiment with a variety of groove and/or style variations.

Book/CD. This book reflects the perspective of a Brazilian musician living in Europe, where he came across a sincere interest for Brazilian music but lots of difficulties concerning its rhythm. The author currently teaches at the JIB-Jazz Institut Berlin. He approaches Brazilian music through the rhythm section. If you play the drums, percussion, bass, guitar or keyboard and are interested in Brazilian rhythms, this book is certainly for you. You will learn how to translate the main percussion rhythms which are typical for Brazilian music styles, into your instrument. You will also learn how to interact with fellow musicians, avoiding unnecessary repetition and adding transparency to the rhythm section. The book contains brief explanations of jargons, history and styles and also provides useful information on what to hear, what to read and how to find sheet music, among other useful tips.

Sittin’ In with the Big Band, Vol. II is more than a fun play-along. This book and CD combination features ten big band charts written at the medium-difficulty level for players with some experience. It provides an opportunity to play along with a professional jazz ensemble and improve playing skills. As students play along and listen to the outstanding players in the band, they will learn about blend, style, phrasing, tone, dynamics, technique, articulation, time and playing in tune.
