Trumpet Section feature. First made popular by the Andrews Sisters back in the '40s, later by Bette Midler in the '70s, and now your very own trumpet section can be the stars of his hoppin' tune from the swing era! Even though this arrangement has been scored for young players, the authentic swing style still comes through in an entertaining version sure to please.

Caprice for Trumpet and Band was written in 1994. It was commissioned by Robert E Foster, Conductor of the University of Kansas Symphonic Band. The premier performance was presented on March, 9 1995 in Lawrence, Kansas at the 61st annual conference of the American Bandmasters Association. The soloist was William Campbell, Professor of Trumpet at The University of Kansas. It was the intent of Robert Foster and the composer to produce a work which was challenging for a professional trumpet player yet also playable by an outstanding college student. The piece consist of two contrasting themes in the allegro section followed by a lyrical middle section. Then the first two themes return in altered fashion.Duration: 7:30 American Grade 5

CAPTAIN HORNBLOWER is a lively solo for the young trumpet player and is modeled on the 18th century ‘trumpet tune’ with its major and minor sections. As is the case with all solos, the balance between band and soloist must be carefully handled and the bands with the benefit of many bass instruments may wish to rest the brass while the soloist is playing. The lyrics to Drink to Me Only with Thine Eyes can be traced to English poet Ben Jonson, a contemporary of Shakespeare. The melody’s origin, on the other hand, is not certain. In this three- movement arrangement, Philip Sparke provides the soloist with plenty of substance while respecting the beautiful simplicity of the original tune. AMP320-010

Bb Piccolo Trumpet (or Eb Cornet/Trumpet) and Concert Band. Flowerdale is a forest in Wester Ross, Scotland, which is well-known for it’s beautiful waterfall. This piece, for solo Piccolo Trumpet, is one of the movements from Philip Sparke’s epic suite Hymn of the Highlands. It depicts the tall trees swaying gently in the wind with the serenity of the area being reflected by the subtle accompaniment of the band. Haydn's Trumpet Concerto is probably the most-performed trumpet concerto ever written. The second movement is known equally for both its beautiful melody and wonderful use of trumpet as a solo instrument. In this adaptation, the key is lowered to avoid the high notes of the original, sixteenth notes are eliminated by using a 3/4 time signature and difficult passages are simplified-making it ideal for younger soloists. This touching ballad from the landmark musical Les Miserables had established itself as a classic long before Susan Boyle scored her knock-out punch on “Britain's Got Talent.” This skillfully crafted arrangement can be used to feature a vocalist or any number of instrumental solos (including Clarinet, Alto Sax, Trumpet, or F Horn). Sure to be a showstopper wherever it is performed.

Manhattan was commissioned by the United States Army Band for their solo trumpet player Woodrow English, and first performed by them in Carnegie Hall,New York, in November 2003.The two movement work demonstrates both the lyrical and technical abilities of this outstanding player.The ‘theme’ is a weekend in New York and the opening bluesy movement, Saturday Serenade, describes the city on a Saturday night, perhaps in a smoke-filled jazz bar.While writing Sunday Scherzo, the composer pictured an early morning jog in Central Park.This vivaciously rhythmic second movement ends with an even quicker coda bringing the work to a brilliant close. Each movement can also be played individually when a shorter solo is required. Manhattan is a major new work in the solo trumpet repertoire. Duration: 9:00 American Grade 4. The solo part can be played by a trumpet, clarinet or alto saxophone. Sir Hubert Parry (1848-1918) belongs to a forgotten generation of English composers who are often over-shadowed by Sir Edward Elgar, and the result has been that much of their work is little played or forgotten. In Parry's case, he is now mostly remembered for his hymn tunes, such as Jerusalem and Repton, both marvellous melodies, of course. The latter first appeared in Parry?s oratorio Judith and was adapted as a hymn tune after the composer's death. Duration: 3:00

Rockin' Trumpets. The history of rock and roll can be traced back as far as the musical influence of the first African slaves to arrive in North America. The style borrows heavily from rhythm and blues and early rock stars such as Ike Turner, Bill Haley, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley had a huge influence through the newly-invented juke box and liberated the youth of the day by giving them a music of their own. Trumpet or Flugel Horn Solo with Concert Band. Grade: Easy/Medium

In 1986, Kent Kennan revised this well-known trumpet and piano recital piece (originally published in 1956) with a new ending for the first movement. More recently, he made this scoring for solo trumpet and wind ensemble and provided both the original and new endings in this new edition. A tremendous contribution to the solo trumpet repertoire! Here is an opportunity for the trumpets to go through their paces! The syncopated nature of the tune may be unfamiliar to many young players, but once the sound is in their heads there shouldn’t be a problem. The middle passage is a good test of counting and needs everyone to be confident of their entries. Players are also introduced here to the concept of first-and second-time bars (endings) and the D.C.
