From the '80s Broadway musical Chess, the song “Anthem” has enjoyed renewed popularity due in part to recordings by Josh Groban and Linda Eder. Here is a beautifully effective setting for full concert band of this memorable song

Originally a composition for chorus by Kevin A. Memley, this adaptation by Preston Hazzard makes expert use of the various tone colors available for band. Cascading waterfall effects are represented in the mallet percussion and woodwinds, while an underlying rhythmic texture provides a flowing background for the lyric melody. The piece builds nicely to a full band climax before returning to a quiet and delicate mood for the close. Duration: 4:13

Beat It is one of Michael Jackson’s most popular songs, awarded two Grammys for its commercial success. Seen by many as a rock song, Beat It was ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the “100 Greatest Guitar Songs Of All Time.” Since its release, the song has been covered and famously reinterpreted by artists such as Fall Out Boy, Fergie and most recently Masamicz Amano, who has made this wonderful arrangement for concert band!

Billie Jean is the most successful single that Michael Jackson ever released and is considered by many to be one of the best pop songs ever written. In this arrangement, Louis Kihara has transformed the timeless classic into a piece for concert band that no repertoire should be without!

In Spring 2010, Peter Gene Hernandez, better known as Bruno Mars, wrote the song Billionaire. Recorded together with rapper Travie McCoy, the song reached the top of the charts worldwide. A combination of catchy R&B melodies and rhythmical rap proved irresistible in the original version, and is captured brilliantly in this arrangement for concert band from Peter Kleine Schaars.

Published in 1961 commemorating 100 years after the start of the Civil War, Clare Grundman's classic work has become a staple in the repertoire. Robert Longfield's adaptation for younger bands maintains the character of the original as well as all of the tunes, but in a shorter and more concise setting. One of the most recognizable and often-quoted symphonic passages in modern times is from this grand work for chorus and orchestra by Carl Orff. Combining elements from Movements I and II, Jay Bocook vividly captures the intense spirit of the original in this concise and impressive work for band. Dur: 4:30

Peter Kleine Schaars' Dance Medley is an up-beat medley containing music from three legendary dance movies from the 70's and 80's. In a recent YouTube moment that went viral, Giovanni Dettori created a convincingly traditional Baroque fugue based on the opening strains of Lady Gaga's hit “Bad Romance.” Johnnie Vinson has done a marvelous job of adapting this setting for concert band, providing a terrific opportunity to teach an important musical form and have some fun at the same time

Latin ABC is a suite in three movements inspired by the music of the Caribbean. The first movement is a joyful Curaçaon waltz, the second movement a sensual, slow salsa: a style that is popular on the island of Bonaire. Finally, Latin ABC culminates with a rousing march that brings the listener to sunny Aruba. This work is suitable for Grade 3 players, and showcases the percussion section in particular.

Even 40 years after his death, Louis Armstrong remains one of the most popular jazz trumpeters and singers of all time. In Louis Armstrong Medley, Naohiro Iwai has beautifully arranged Armstrong’s unmistakable version of the Russian folk song, Dark Eyes (1954). This is then followed by two of his greatest hits: the jazz standard, Georgia on My Mind (1930), which features a tenor saxophone solo, and When You’re Smiling (1929).

Moonlight Serenade is often said to be the Glenn Miller Orchestra’s signature tune, capturing the very best of what it had to offer. It was recorded for the first time in 1939 and only made the B-side of the disc with Sunrise Serenade featuring on the A-side. Moonlight Serenade gained very rapid and unexpected success and this arrangement will give your concert band that famous big band sound!

Helping to pioneer the Afro-Cuban style of the '40s, Dizzy Gillepsie's signature composition has been recorded by countless jazz artists over the years and has become a true jazz standard. In 1979, Dan Hartman's disco classic, Relight My Fire, occupied the top slot of the US dance charts for six weeks. In 1993, the song was back at No. 1 reworked and sung by British boyband, Take That. Both of these versions inspired Peter Kleine Schaars in his arrangement of Relight My Fire for concert band.

Since 2007, British pop-singer sensation Adele has been winning one prize after another and has enjoyed unprecedented UK chart success. In December 2010, Rolling in the Deep finally propelled her into the charts of many European countries and the USA. Romeo and Juliet is a sensitive adaptation of the unforgettable love theme from Nino Rota’s soundtrack to Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 film, Romeo and Juliet. Retaining the tumultuous romance and tragedy of the story itself, Toshio Mashima’s arrangement is ideal for concert or competition performance.

The text is taken from poems, letters and prayers written by the Military Wives, selected and adapted by Paul Mealor, and a passage from the Book of John. Selling a staggering 556,000 copies in the week leading up to Christmas, more than the rest of the Top 12 combined, Wherever You Are became the UK's Official Christmas No. 1 of 2011. A brass band version is also available. A contribution from the sales of the sheet music will be donated to the two nominated charities: The Royal British Legion and SSAFA Forces Help.
