Please note: This is a marching band arrangement, which we have included as it is the only version we have been able to find of this popular title. Thanks to director Tim Burton and actor Johnny Depp, the recent movie Alice in Wonderland shows a new side to this classic tale. Equally distinctive is Danny Elfman's dark and delightful musical score. Michael Brown's well-paced medley features the recurring melody “Alice's Theme” along with other important themes from the film. Sure to please!

This transcription of Asturias from Issac Albéniz’s Suite Española, Op. 47 brings new life to the work originally composed for piano and is brilliantly coloured, filled with suggestive harmonies and complex textures, and richly evocative.

One of the hardest driving rock bands of the '70s, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band produced hit after hit and rocked their way across the country. This energetic medley for band includes Old Time Rock & Roll, Hollywood Nights, Night Moves and Katmandu. American Grade 3

The Choral Fantasy varies from the Choral Prelude in that it is much freer in form and style. This number opens with a variation of the fanfare that has been traditionally inserted as an introduction and interlude between stanzas. The chorale is then presented in a traditional harmonization by the full band. The second section is in a faster tempo, and is based on statements of the opening motive of the hymn presented in fugal style

Canadian Folk Trilogy offers a refreshing setting of three popular Canadian Folk songs. Kicking things off is an enjoyable adaptation of “Donkey Riding.” Singing this tune helped sailors to pass the time as they used the donkey engine to load timber onto the decks of ships in Canadian ports. “Inuit Lullaby” slows the pace with a simple but beautiful melody set in three bar phrases. Finally, we conclude with a rollicking version of “I's the B'y (I’m the Boy), a traditional Newfoundland folk song.

This tuneful medley of Christmas favourites will be sure to get your audience in the Christmas spirit with colourful settings of four old carols. You’ll feel the happy “wassailing” spirit immediately as the piece begins with The Wassail Song, then sail right on with I Saw Three Ships. A fluid transition leads into the lovely, lilting Coventry Carol. The sounds of Christmas bells accent the final, driving passage, lifting anticipation and excitement with Ding Dong, Merrily on High. Surprising harmonies will captivate your concert audience in this well-crafted arrangement that is sure to become a Christmas favourite.

Inspired by the many hardships of the Irish immigrants, this piece brings hope of a new world, a new lease on life and a second chance. The piece begins with the sound of the ocean in the background (played by the ocean drum) while a solo flute plays the main theme. As the piece develops the theme represents several scenes: first, the knowledge that life needs to change due to the famine and hardships of the time; second, the immigrants begin their move to America; third, the arrival in America and seeing the statue of Liberty, which is the climactic moment of the piece; and finally, ending with the same idea in the beginning of the piece but now as memory and longing for Ireland.

Written in overture form, the piece draws its inspiration from dance movements found in contemporary stage, ballet and theatrical productions. The piece opens with fast-paced angular gestures accompanied by rapid rhythmical punctuations before yielding to a contrasting lyrical section with long, flowing lines and many opportunities for expressive playing. The infectious beat patterns and memorable melodic content combine to make this an excellent concert opener.

Philip Sparke published a book of etudes, Super Solos in 2008, the third volume in a series flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone and euphoniu. A young German Flutist was so excited by these pieces that his father secretly comissioned an arrangement of three of the etudes. The result is this mini-concerto, containing Little Overture, Berceuse and Molto Perpetuo. Duration: 7:05

It was his sincere response to emotional impulse and the freedom with which he ranged over almost every field of musical creation which made him as great as he was. Frank Erickson passed away before he could provide rehearsal suggestions for this piece. This was one of his final numbers.

Written by Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen back in the '80s, this powerful song has reached almost legendary status with its frequent usage in TV and movies. Recommended! Alfred Reed (1921-2005) was one of America's most prolific and frequently performed composers. The Hounds of Spring was composed in 1980 and was inspired by the poem “Atalanta in Calydon” by Algernon Charles Swinburne. In this concert overture, Reed captures the elements of youthful exuberance and tenderness of love expressed in the poem. Remaining true in form and intent to the original, Robert Longfield has masterfully shortened and adapted this work for younger bands. Duration: 5:30

A Jamestown Trilogy is a three-movement suite inspired by the story of Captain John Smith and his crew, who sailed from England on December 20, 1606 in three small ships, the Discovery, Susan Constant and Godspeed. They first landed at Cape Henry on April 26, 1607 and then sailed up the James River where, on May 14, 1607, they landed on a site they named Jamestown. In 1608, Smith was captured by the Powhatan Indians. Legend has it that he was considered a threat to the Indians because of his interest in metals and in searching for a waterway west. Smith was sentenced to death and placed on a stone alter to be killed when a twelve year old Indian Princess rescued him. Matoaka, nicknamed Pocahontas (Playful One), the daughter of Powhatan, chief of the confederacy, threw her body across Smith’s and saved his life.

Including the popular swing hits Flip, Flop and Fly; Rock This Town and Jump, Jive and Wail, here is an entertaining medley for band that will have everyone dancing in the aisles. Paul Murtha has skillfully adapted this fun, jazzy style for the concert stage.

Magic Valley is based on an original melody in the style of a hymn tune, first presented simply, then developed over the course of the piece to a stirring, majestic climax. The hymn tune and its treatment reflect the beautiful landscape, remarkable people and faith-inspiring creation of South Central Idaho.

Edvard Grieg (1843–1907) is best known for his eternally popular Piano Concerto in A Minor, as well as more than 150 songs and 66 lyric pieces. March of the Trolls is from his Lyric Pieces, Op. 54. Trolls are a constant theme in Norwegian folklore and can be viewed as the equivalent of our “boogie man.” Far to the north in Norway where the winter storms whip the weather-beaten coasts, you will find dark forests with moonlit lakes, deep fjords surrounded by mighty snowcapped mountains, and long rivers and cold streams cascading down the mountain sides. This is where you might find the irritable, short- tempered trolls coming out of their hiding places after sunset, marching to wreck havoc on unsuspecting Norwegian households.

Ravel wrote the Mother Goose Suite for two children who were very special to him. His fascination with the wonder and imagination of childhood are evident in this piece. This arrangement will take your young band on a journey through the enchanted world of fairy tales—from the reflective “Sleeping Beauty Pavane,” to the playful “Tom Thumb,” the exotic “Empress of the Pagoda,” through the courtship of “Beauty and the Beast,” and concluding where all fairy tales must, with a happily-ever-after ending in “The Fairy Garden.” This piece is an excellent vehicle for featuring your soloists, and the well- rafted orchestration will showcase the wealth of sound and colours in any band. Being generously cued, even smaller bands will be able to enjoy Ravel’s music. Mother Goose Suite is sure to delight the child in all of us.

Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky composed the ballet The Nutcracker in 1891–1892. Based on Alexandre Dumas’ adaptation of E. T. A. Hoffmann’s story, “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.” Before the premiere, Tchaikovsky selected eight pieces from the ballet and created The Nutcracker Suite, Op. 71a, which became an immediate success and contains some of the most recognisable and best-loved holiday music. Scenes from The Nutcracker” contains four numbers from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Suite, Op. 71a.

Based on a poem by Gary Fagan, this piece tells the story of those whose lives were dedicated to supporting music. This inspiring work will certainly be a memorable addition to your next concert. (5:20)

This uniquely constructed work was commissioned by the 2008 South Carolina High School All-State Band and consists of a series of gorgeous melodic textures surrounding one ever-present note. The listener hears this note briefly in the beginning and the end, but it is skillfully hidden in between. From lush soft passages to crescendos that leave your audience breathless, this composition will provide you and your ensemble with an unforgettable musical experience! Duration: 5:00

Floating harmonies and angular melodic curves set the stage in the opening measures of this imaginative new work for band. The main theme then bursts in with a powerful call and response statement, developing and transforming and gradually working its way to a lyrical section painted with vibrant textures and colours. The intensity of the main theme cannot be held at bay for long, however, as it rematerializes and transports this work to a dramatic conclusion.

Rampage! is a relentless, aggressive work that requires wind players and percussionists alike to play with both a great deal of force and finesse. Strong statements in the brass, the interwoven woodwind parts, and a contrasting introspective section provide numerous opportunities for expression and nuance. Ranges are comfortable, allowing players to concentrate on the technique and articulations that will make this piece virtually leap off of the page

Ode to Joy is a simple song familiar to most people. The song dates back to the 1800s and has been sung and played ever since. Although often used in various collections, this arrangement will give new and added insight to this wonderful melody. This arrangement is, of course, a spoof. Great fun for light concert programming!

Following a gentle, lyric fanfare at the opening, each section begins in a quiet way, gradually growing toward maturity, and isn't thus true of life itself? It is also hoped that other inflections of these thoughts and ideas will come to life through the music.

Using a recurring four-note motif and a variety of textural punctuations, here is a stunning and fresh-sounding overture from Richard Saucedo. A slow and lyric middle section featuring woodwind colors and rich emotional contours provides a stark contrast to the rhythmic intensity of the opening and closing sections. Dramatic and powerful! Considered his most well-known organ composition, Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor has been scored for concert band. Victor López has transcribed and arranged this work and made it extremely playable at the concert band level. Although many of the developmental sections have been deleted, Victor has kept the lush and driven rendition of the original version throughout.

this simple, plaintive carol is yet another memorable moment from Mannheim Steamroller's A Fresh Aire Christmas. Robert Longfield's adaptation for band provides a beautiful and tender setting for any Christmas concert.

Haunting yet beautiful, Sergei Rachmaninoff originally wrote Vocalise as a song without text for soprano and piano. This exquisite arrangement brings this immortal melody to your concert band. A beautiful contest or concert piece!

A Winter's Tale does not contain any references to Christmas, so it is perfect for any kind of holiday concert as well as other events held throughout the winter eason. The music describeds the wintry landscape in the country, a quiet sunset and fiels and forests covered with snow. Sleigh bells can be heard somewhere off in the distance and a horse-drawn troika draws near before the music settles down with the countryside again. Duration: 7:05
