Based on the tune My Shepherd Will Supply My Need from the traditional work “Walker's Southern Harmony,” this sensitive and richly-scored setting provides a wonderful showcase for legato melodies and flowing counterlines. The piece builds gradually throughout, leading to the “maestoso” emotional peak. From there it winds down to a beautifully calm and peaceful close. Very effective! (4:35)

The birth of Philip Sparke’s second son, Benjamin, was the inspiration for composing Ballad for Benny. A short calm introduction leads to the main ballad theme, a gentle waltz melody. Following the work’s climax in which the complete band plays the main theme the sound fades and the piece ends in calm and serenity. Duration 5:00

Here is a delightful Dixie-style piece that features a small combo of clarinet, trumpet, tenor sax, trombone and tuba alternating with statements by the full band. Also included is a stop-time section featuring the percussion. Sure to be an audience pleasing addition to any light concert program.
