It describes the busy day in the life your Glockenspiel player, who never has quite enough time for everything. The day begins with the ticking clock (temple blocks) then the alarm goes (triangle), to be wound up again (guiro). A sort of Perpetuum Mobile is started by the Glock - always in a hurry ... never enough time ... caught in the traffic (klaxon)... even the cuckoo clock somehow becomes discordent. The sarabande originated in the early 17th century and is a stately dance in triple time. It was popular in France and Spain but as a dance it quickly spread throughout the courts of Europe and the style was soon adopted into instrumental music in dance suites for solo instruments as well as orchestra. Something of this style has influenced Simple Sarabande; although its harmonic language is perhaps more up-to-date it could be seen as a ‘period piece’. Duration: 3:00
